Neighbourhood
Management is a national programme which in
a way tries to recreate this small interconnected
community.
Each Neighbourhood
Manager (NM) works in a neighbourhood
which is a village-sized area. The NM’s
role is to talk to local residents to find
out how they feel their neighbourhood could
be improved both through better service from
the local authority and from locally based
organisations.
Birmingham City Council Housing &
Constituencies in partnership with
Be Birmingham
has developed an ambitious neighbourhoods
programme which seeks to improve Birmingham’s
neighbourhoods, in terms of deprivation, service
delivery and overall quality of life for residents.
This has led to 31 geographic neighbourhoods
being identified for the delivery of intensive
neighbourhood management support. Each of
these neighbourhoods have appointed a dedicated
Neighbourhood Manager.
Street Champions will be able to
help with identifying the problems and suggesting
solutions.
The Neighbourhood Manager
works with council services and public bodies
like the police, health services, housing
and education to improve things such as waste
disposal, fly tipping,anti-social behaviour,
access to health care, good support from private
and council landlords, access to employment
etc.
He or she also works very closely with local
community, voluntary and faith groups and
strives to create a working partnership with
all these bodies to move the area forward.
They are accountable to the Neighbourhood
Board made up of a mixture of residents,
Ward Councillors, local service
providers and voluntary bodies. It is a joined
up approach which responds to the unique needs
of that particular area. It is a new style
village community. |
